SAP and IBM Come Together to Serve Transportation and Logistics Industry

IBM and SAP AG have announced an international collaboration for providing tailored business applications and consulting services for the transportation and logistics industry.

Globally, transportation companies like ocean liners, freight forwarders and railways have recognized that challenges from energy costs to economic volatility cannot be controlled by the,. However, they will be able to provide improved performance by offering superior service to their customers if they evolve core business process execution with analytics, cloud computing, mobile and other technology advances. IBM and SAP together propose to meet this market need by providing a next-generation transportation platform which aims at standardizing functional processes while enabling innovation at the business process level to improve operational performance.

The new collaboration intends to bring together IBM’s strategy, industry consulting and experience managing large-scale, global business transformation along with SAP’s expertise in co-innovating industry-specific enhancements to standard software with customers.

This new collaboration is intended to bring together SAP software with IBM’s implementation and configuration services. The SAP Transportation Management, SAP Event Management and SAP Customer Relationship Management applications, along with SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management solutions are being planned to be integrated to offer a complete 360-degree view of individual customers. Having the backing of deep industry knowledge and experience from IBM’s SAP Center of Competence, IBM’s best practice templates will facilitate the transportation industry solution from SAP to be suitable and personalized to meet each transportation company’s needs. This is anticipated to result in lower implementation costs and faster time to value.
