Understanding Six Sigma Certifications – What they are and why they are Relevant

The Relevance of Six Sigma Certifications

The various levels of certifications ensure that all professionals, ranging from those unexposed to process improvement to subject matter experts, are able to gain a deeper knowledge of Six Sigma and standardize the way it is handled within the organization. Beginning with the Six Sigma White Belt certification, and up through the Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt certifications, take an employee on a journey from being merely exposed to the terminology and philosophy of Six Sigma all the way to leading and supporting Six Sigma projects using the standardized methodology.

Six Sigma training and certifications ensure that all members of a team using a common terminology while employing the same parameters to identify and deploy solutions to existing processes. They are especially helpful in educating members of a process improvement team with basic or little knowledge and ensuring that those with expert levels of information are using the same tools and analytics to capture results. The Black Belt certification is for specialized professionals, interested in becoming an SME at their workplace. According to the ASQ, the certified Six Sigma Black Belt is a process improvement professional with proven completion of two Six Sigma projects, three years of work experience in the Six Sigma Book of Knowledge, and successful completion of the Six Sigma Black Belt Examination through ASQ.  Black Belts lead process improvement projects and act as subject matter experts throughout an organization. The ASQ Black Belt is required to be recertified every three years by the ASQ.

Business analyst job interviews can be daunting. While that’s true for every career path, the nervousness and uncertainty that comes with job interviews for business analyst positions is especially difficult. If you’re new to the job market, or if you recently completed your degree, you may feel as if you’re feeling around in the dark looking for a light switch.

Define your behavior. Business analysts are expected to create robust, transformational solutions for their stakeholders and the companies they represent.

During your job interview, express your values and describe why you decided to become a business analyst in the first place. If you add in this segment—alongside your more technical knowledge—you will stand out in a large pool of applicants.

Learn the ins and outs of various industries. If there’s one thing you’re expected to have before you walk onto the job, it’s most definitely knowledge. With this in mind, it’s especially pertinent to have industry-specific knowledge about various businesses—from IT to customer service industries.

When you know a few typical solutions, you can project a case study or scenario during your job interviews. This will allow you to showcase how you are able to help in a tangible way, and your interviewer won’t forget that.

Express the value of communication. Communication is the backbone of business analysis. Without it, every facet of a project may fall apart within the blink of an eye.

Use examples of how you will streamline the most effective communication techniques, and how you will use feedback and knowledge to drive solutions forward.
